TROMP Percussion: workshop day with Lucas van Merwijk
Spend a day with Lucas van Merwijk, one of Europe’s leading drummers, and round off the day with a parade through the heart of Eindhoven during the festive opening of TROMP Percussion.

Lucas van Merwijk has long been regarded as one of Europe’s leading drummers. He has toured the world, learnt Afro-Cuban drumming techniques in Cuba and played alongside greats such as Luis Conte and Armando Peraza. During this workshop at CKE, he will share his knowledge and you’ll get to sit behind the drums yourself.
The day begins with an inspiring clinic, during which Lucas will demonstrate his playing style and talk about his musical approach. Afterwards, you’ll get to work yourself. You’ll learn his rhythms, work them out together and build up to a joint performance. At lunchtime, there’ll be a relaxed lunch with Lucas and the other participants.
In the afternoon, you’ll take to the streets together with Lucas and La Maquina – the Rotterdam-based percussion group that uniquely combines music and sign language. During an energetic parade through Eindhoven, you’ll jointly perform the official opening of TROMP Percussion. You’ll put what you’ve learnt in the morning straight into practice in the afternoon. Whether you play in a percussion group, study music or simply enjoy drumming: anyone with enthusiasm is welcome.

Monthly sketch café
Artists of all levels gather monthly, alternating between Thursdays and Saturdays, at Café C to sketch, learn, and meet each other.
