From weaving and embroidery to stories about craftsmanship and heritage: during Draadkracht XL, the CKE is all about textiles. Discover how different techniques, materials, and traditions from the Netherlands and abroad come together in an inspiring program full of workshops, lectures, and collaborative projects.
Learn to weave during a workshop hosted by the Weverijmuseum Geldrop, here you’ll be introduced to a craft that has been intertwined with the region’s history for generations. Teresa Carvalheira takes you to Portugal and introduces you to Arraiolos, a traditional embroidery technique used to create colorful woolen rugs. Ruby Joemai of Kaam Kari La discusses the cultural significance of the sari and demonstrates how to drape it in various ways. With Ghenva Alkabra, you’ll discover the Palestinian embroidery tradition Tatreez and learn how to apply this technique to your own clothing.
Throughout the day, you can also join the collaborative Sashiko Quilt project, which visitors continue to work on together. Whether you have extensive experience with textiles or are picking up a needle for the first time, everyone contributes a piece to a single collaborative work of art.
