In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of weaving on a small loom. We’ll start by getting acquainted with the loom and learning how it works. Then you’ll work with plain weave and twill patterns such as 1 over 3, 2 over 2, and 3 over 1, and there will be time for simple inlay techniques. You’ll work with various materials and tools, all of which will be provided for you. At the end, you’ll learn simple finishing techniques such as knotting and fringing. You’ll go home with instructional materials and your own woven creation.
In collaboration with the Weverijmuseum Geldrop
The Weverijmuseum Geldrop is a unique museum where the rich textile history of Geldrop and Mierlo comes to life. The weaving hall features various types of looms that are still in operation. These include machines with shuttle spools, bobbins, grippers, and compressed air. Skilled artisans demonstrate how fabrics and patterns are created using different colors and yarns. CKE aims to connect with the creative history of Eindhoven and the surrounding area. That is why our programming highlights crafts and arts from the region. Together with the Geldrop Weaving Museum, we are offering this first weaving workshop.
