Het Zuidelijk Toneel presents a special Brabant-based project every year. This year they play: Café Brabant, among other venues including CKE. A performance about Brabant, shown exclusively in Brabant, and performed by real Brabant amateur actors. In this way, the company builds a lasting connection with the region and creates space for new local voices and stories. This year’s production is Café Brabant.

Café Brabant

In Café Brabant, we follow the regulars of a pub on the brink of bankruptcy. They cling to tables, routines, and to one another, because this pub is their home. The landlady holds her ground like the captain of her own Titanic. The band keeps playing until the very last sip and sob. Together with professional actors and local amateur performers, director Jessie L’Herminez creates a performance about longing and the many emotions the idea of “home” can evoke.
