Collaboration between CKE and Van der Meijs

Culture and construction – do they go together? Absolutely! Van der Meijs and CKE share something very important: a passion for local neighbourhoods. Meijsindebuurt is a collaborative initiative in which CKE and Van der Meijs each contribute from their own perspective and expertise, thereby increasing the overall impact. Both view the neighbourhoods not as an ‘anonymous product’ but as dynamic spaces, full of real people with real stories and needs.

King for a day

Van der Meijs and CKE had previously collaborated on the project King for a Day, in which CKE searched for remarkable local residents. Van der Meijs created ten circular thrones, which were decorated by primary schools and care homes. On King’s Day, the thrones were displayed across thirty neighbourhoods as part of an event allowing every resident to feel like king for a day. This successful collaboration left everyone wanting more.

Warm winter

On 18 December, the first wish will come true. The Eindhoven neighbourhood Oude Spoorbaan wanted a festive Christmas square. Together with Neos and Woonbedrijf, we are creating a beautiful Christmas atmosphere at Frederik Hendrikplein. Clients from the Neos day centre HK1 are designing and building cheerful Christmas installations for the neighbourhood, alongside designers Eva Broekhuijse and Miranda van der Zandt. These are constructed from circular (reused) materials supplied by A. van Liempd Sloopbedrijven. The activity is financially supported by Buurtfonds Woonbedrijf.

On 18 December at 16:30, the Christmas square will be officially opened. The square will be fully decorated, and performers will go from door to door. The festive atmosphere will remain until early January.
