All of Blixembosch decides: which artwork will be placed on Ouvertureplein?

Giving the neighbourhood its own identity – and helping residents get to know each other better. That was the dual mission of this art project, supported by many partners working together.

Cultuurparticipatie ouvertureplein Eindhoven

La Scala on Ouvertureplein in Blixembosch is a beautiful spot for a striking artwork to enhance the square. And how wonderful it is to create this together with various parties, combining ideas and creative power. Young people, seniors, residents and primary school children from De Boschuil collaborated with several professional artists. The result: 3 possible designs for a mural on the panel.

The winning artwork has been announced!

Over the past period, many residents of Blixembosch voted for “their” artwork for Ouvertureplein. And there is a clear winner!

A total of 277 votes were cast:

  • 81 for the design with the trees
  • 196 for the design with the violin

This means the design featuring the violin has officially won! Graffiti artist Jasper van Seggelen will start work together with local residents at the beginning of December 2025 to bring the artwork for Blixembosch to life.

Opening

On 19 December 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, there will be a festive opening of the artwork! With music, food and fun stalls. A lovely moment for the neighbourhood to come together and celebrate this new addition to Ouvertureplein.

Will you be there?

How were the designs created?

Over 55 participants from Blixembosch took part in various creative workshops, where they reflected on the design. Together with artist Almar Sinte Maartensdijk, they sketched, practised, discussed, made stencils, shared meals and had fun.

The participants (young and old) also got to know each other better. Children from De Boschuil Primary School worked with artists Almar and Wendela Melssen (from Blixembosch) during workshops. They created stencils that appear in the designs. There was also close consultation with the residents of La Scala and their Owners’ Association. The great thing: everyone had the same goal in mind – a connecting artwork for Blixembosch.

Expressive themes

From the workshop sessions with Blixembosch residents (especially the participating young people and seniors), important themes emerged:

  • Nature, represented through the trees of Blixembosch.
  • Lightning bolts symbolising the energy and strength of Blixembosch residents.
  • A passion for music and an Italian touch inspired by the square’s name Ouverture. You can see this in the violin and the Vespa scooter, with a nod to the seniors in the neighbourhood.

Creating together

Artist Jasper Meulensteen will create the mural together with Almar Sinte Maartensdijk and maintenance company Knaapen. The creative young people from JC Blixems will assist Jasper in painting the mural.

Collaboration

This project is a wonderful example of the power of collaboration. Without the commitment of various partners, this connecting project would not have been possible. Many thanks to: Trudo, Wooninc., Vitalis, Postcode Loterij Buurtfonds, Owners’ Association La Scala, Dynamo Jeugdwerk, Municipality of Eindhoven, Oranje Fonds and maintenance company Knaapen.
