DARK: a cultural participation project around Halloween
DARK is Eindhoven’s Halloween festival. One night a year, the station area is transformed into a mysterious world filled with theater, music, dance, art, and unexpected encounters. Behind the festival lies a unique cultural participation project in which hundreds of Eindhoven residents work together to create a one-of-a-kind Halloween experience.

Halloween is alive and well in Eindhoven. What once began as a small-scale initiative has grown into a major cultural event centered on amateur art, talent development, and collaboration.
DARK brings together creators, performers, organizations, local residents, students, and culture enthusiasts. Under the guidance of professionals, participants spend months working on shows, performances, costumes, makeup, sets, and music. The result is a unique route filled with surprising encounters and spine-tingling experiences.
The festival is created by the people of Eindhoven and for the people of Eindhoven. It is precisely this collaboration that makes DARK more than just a Halloween event: it is a project where cultural participation, creativity, and connection come together.
Join DARK
Anyone can participate in DARK. Whether you want to learn makeup artistry, help build sets, or be part of a large-scale performance, there’s a place for both experienced creators and enthusiastic beginners. Amateur arts groups, groups of friends, choirs, and other creative collectives are also warmly welcome. In the run-up to the festival, CKE organizes various workshops and preparatory activities in which participants work together to prepare for the festival evening.

Cultural participation in practice
DARK aligns seamlessly with CKE’s mission to enable as many people as possible to actively participate in art and culture. The project provides opportunities for talent development, interaction, and collaboration across different disciplines and communities. By bringing together amateur arts groups, recreational artists, cultural organizations, professionals, and residents, the project creates an event that showcases the city’s creativity and makes it accessible to a broad audience.
A growing Halloween tradition
For several years now, CKE—together with partners, creators, and participants—has been bringing Halloween to life in Eindhoven. Each edition has its own character and story, but the foundation remains the same: creating, experiencing, and sharing culture together.
With DARK, we’re continuing to build a Halloween festival centered on art, culture, and participation—one in which more and more Eindhoven residents are playing an active role.
