How do you bring text to life on stage? In this course, you’ll delve into the world of theatrical texts: from well-known classics to compelling contemporary works. We’ll take a journey through various theatrical texts, from monologues to dialogues.
What do the timeless stories of Shakespeare or Chekhov ask of you? Or the sharp, modern texts of Jibbe Willems? How do you perform text that is poetic, or conversely very direct or raw? You’ll learn how timing, voice, and movement can completely change the meaning of a text. What is really being said in the silence between the lines? You’ll also develop your ensemble skills: listening, responding, and engaging with your scene partner in the moment.
In a safe, exploratory atmosphere, you’ll develop your approach to the text and your expression. There’s plenty of room to experiment with roles, interpretations, and acting styles. The course concludes with a presentation during De Ontdekking, where we’ll show how we’ve made these different texts our own!
