Visual Arts Teacher

Renate Engelen

What is your connection with art, culture, and CKE?

“Ever since I could hold a pencil, I’ve been drawing. Later, I started painting, dancing, acting in musicals, and writing music and texts. I’m truly a creative all-rounder. I taught for 20 years at a secondary school as a teacher of visual arts, cultural education, and arts. As a visual arts teacher (drawing and painting) at CKE, I teach both children and adults. It’s a place where I feel at home: a vibrant space and creative hub with many opportunities.”

And in your free time?

“I enjoy going to museums, theatres, and various cultural events. I also draw, paint, make glass jewelry, and do performances. With a friend, I have a musical cabaret duo called ‘Veel mensen vinden dit leuk’. I also love to dance.”

What do you find important to pass on in your lessons?

“I think it’s important that people learn what they need to grow. That’s different for everyone.”

When do you go home feeling good?

“When someone discovers something new, creates something beautiful, or shows gratitude. That makes me happy, and thankfully it happens here very often.”
