What is your connection with art and culture?

“I am a teacher and a visual artist. Creating art and being creative often comes naturally to me. I make sculptures and take photographs. In my free time, I often look for solutions to problems that don’t really exist: a lampshade for that one lamp, a beautiful frame for a specific photo or drawing. I also enjoy doing this with others. Being creative, and being creative together, is something that gives me energy.”

Why or when did you decide to become a teacher?

“During my studies, a teacher asked me if teaching might be for me. At the time, I put it aside, but over the years the idea kept coming back. After graduating, I decided to see if teaching was something I wanted to do. Before I knew it, it became part of my way of working.”

What do you find important to pass on in your lessons?

“That every idea is a valuable idea. Everyone has their own unique perspective. Every voice should be heard, every creation should be seen. Together with my students, I explore ways to grow. I’m especially happy when I see joy in the classroom—when the playful, creative process gets space again, and discoveries are made while creating.”
